c. The standard loan cost is £25 per month or £13 for 2 weeks.

d. The maximum loan period is 2 months.

Loss or Damage

a. Lost carriers will be charged at the RRP. Lost accessories will be charged at replacement cost including postage.

b. Charges for damage beyond normal wear and tear will be judged case-by-case.

Safe Use of Carriers

a. ALL CARRIERS ARE EXTREMELY SAFE WHEN USED PROPERLY. HOWEVER, MISUSE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO YOURSELF OR YOUR CHILD. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT YOU ARE USING THE CARRIER CORRECTLY AND THAT YOUR BABY OR CHILD IS SAFE AT ALL TIMES WHEN USING THE CARRIER. The MotherBorn Collective CIC cannot be held responsible for any accident that results in injury or death whilst the carrier is in the borrower’s possession.

You are aware of the following safe sling safety guidelines:

  • The baby needs clear airways with no fabric or anything else blocking their mouth and nose.

  • Positioning – their chin must be off their chest.

  • Fall hazard – the baby is safe from falling.

  • Temperature – the baby is not at risk from dehydration or overheating.

  • Alert – You must be alert and responsive when your baby is in the sling.

  • You will not use the sling/carrier during sport or vigorous exercise.

b. All carriers are provided with links instruction videos for safe use via email. If, for any reason they are not supplied, it is the borrower’s responsibility to ask for the instructions.

c. The borrower must read all safety, use and care instructions provided prior to using the carrier and before each use. Carriers must only be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, though where there is a choice MotherBorn may recommend particular carrying methods or positions.

d. We suggest that the borrower familiarises themselves with the instructions given and practices using the carrier with a doll/teddy or cushion/pillow in order to get used to the tying/fastening/adjusting methods.

e. Ensure that the child’s temperature is monitored when carrying.

f. Always ensure that the child is seated correctly in the carrier and check any knots regularly as children do not stay still and straps and wrap passes can move or become loosened.

g. If any pain is felt while using the carrier, change the carrying position or remove the carrier and contact us for help.

h. If during the loan period, the borrower is unsure about anything read in the instructions, or is at all concerned, please contact MotherBorn. MotherBorn can point the borrower in the direction of many resources to ensure the borrower is getting the best out of the carrier and using it safely.

Care of Carriers

a. Under no circumstances is it permitted to smoke or vape whilst wearing or holding the carrier. The borrower must inform MotherBorn if they are a smoker, or if there is a smoker in their home as these carriers need to be carefully laundered upon return. Smoking is known to increase the risk of SIDS for babies, and these risks have also been linked to babies being in close contact with clothing or objects contaminated with smoke particles.

b. MotherBorn Collective CIC cannot guarantee that there are no marks or pet hairs on the carriers loaned but ask that all carriers are kept away from pets to minimise this possibility. Any cosmetic flaws will be noted on the loan form prior to lending and the borrower will not be held responsible for these. Carriers are washed between hires.

c. Please DO NOT wash the carrier, though do spot clean any marks when they occur using washing up liquid and water. If you feel it is necessary that the carrier is cleaned while on loan, please contact MotherBorn for advice prior to washing.

d. Food and posset marks are expected when carrying children, but please keep the sling away from anything that may stain more permanently (sun cream, oil, paint, pens, etc.), or anything that might damage it (scissors, velcro, keys, fire, etc.). The cost of damage beyond normal wear and tear will be the responsibility of the borrower.

e. All Slings are washed upon return and quarantined for 72 hours, following Covid-19 guidelines.

Condition of the Carrier

a. All carriers are checked before lending to ensure that they are in good condition and working order. The borrower must check the condition of the carrier and any accessories prior to the start of the loan and must confirm on the loan form that it is in working order.

b. It is the borrower’s responsibility to check over the carrier before every use. Check all buckles, hems and seams ensuring that there are no tears, breaks, cracks or holes. If any damage is discovered, stop using the carrier immediately and contact The MotherBorn Collective CIC.

Returning Carriers

a. Returns can be made during MotherBorn drop-in groups or sessions on or before the returns due date. If this is not possible, the carrier may be returned by post to arrive on or before the return due date with prior agreement from MotherBorn.

b. If agreed between parties that postal return is acceptable, the carrier is returned by post at the borrower's own cost and risk (it is advised that the borrower uses tracked 24/48 options or special delivery and retains proof of postage).

Should a carrier be lost in the post, the borrower will be required to reimburse MotherBorn with the value of the carrier, it will be the borrower’s responsibility to recover costs from the postal service used. Please ensure sufficient time is allowed for the carrier to arrive by its return due date.

c. Please ensure that the carrier and any accessories are packaged appropriately – the carrier should be ‘double-bagged’ with both MotherBorn's address and the hirer's address written on both layers.
